It’s getting a bit brisk in the evenings now. This seems so foreign after such a hot summer. Matt and I were hanging with some friends outside on Saturday evening and it started to get pretty chilly. All of a sudden I knew it was definitely time to start on those warm baby items.
It seems like she grows so quickly! I’m afraid of making cold weather clothes that will be useless in a month, but I also want her to have some kind of sweater she can wear for a jacket soon. This hat took about 5 minutes compared to stuff I make for myself. I used leftover Classic Elite Yarns Lush in white and Linie 33 Cosmo in purple. The Lush is a worsted weight yarn and the Cosmo is sock weight. I just held the Cosmo double and eyeballed it and decided it would all be fine on a size 6 needle and that it would come out to be somewhere in the 5 stitches an inch range. It came out as 5.5 sts/in unblocked and it fits, so I’m claiming victory. That’s knitting by the seat of your pants, but with such a small item that’s practically a swatch size, I really couldn’t be bothered.
I finished it with i-cord and added a few petals around that at the top to make it more interesting. I love the nearly instant gratification of this project. It was done in a few hours on Sunday.
How about one more gratuitous baby pic? She’s 6 weeks old tomorrow. I can’t believe how fast the time is flying by.

Oh my gosh, how adorable! She is getting so big! I totally support gratuitous baby pictures. Also tiny garments.
I would totally recommend the Garter Stitch Baby Kimono for sweaters that will grow a little with her. They’re pretty quick and easy to knit, and they’ll size out a few inches just by moving the button placement.
she is just so unbelievably adorable! look at that smile!
it has been feeling a little chilly in the mornings too, that hat looks great on her tiny head!
What a cutie … oh, and that hat is adorable, too! : )
Adorable baby, although in my opinion they are ALL adorable.
I love the hat, too.
What a sweet pea little Z is! Love the hat!
totally gorgeous … both the wee hat and your wee daughter
Trop mignon ce bébé !
You made a very cute baby.
She is so precious! Keep the gratuitous baby pictures coming! I knit some baby hats for my cousin’s photography business last winter, they were so fun to make! And I love that they take less time than a sock, which is normally my smallest project.
Aww, she’s starting to lose that “newborn” look. She looks tickled about the new hat – and completely adorable in it!
That really is a beautiful hat and I cannot believe how Z has changed! She looks so happy in her hat.
