Firstly, thank you for your sweet condolences after my last post. The words were a nice piece of comfort for me in a sullen week.

As part of my therapeutic knitting process, I’m actively fantasizing about all the lovely sweaters I want to make this fall/winter.

I’ve been crushing on Blank Canvas by Ysolda Teague since it was first published. It looks very simple, but would be sooooo wearable, and I’m curious about the shoulder shaping. I have some Jo Sharp DK Wool Tweed that’s been living in my stash for about 7 years that I thought would be perfect. I swatched with it the other night and it seemed way more like a worsted weight than a dk when I knit with it. I would have had to go down to a needle size that made the fabric too dense, and my hands miserable. I had some Rowan Felted Tweed in my stash, so I tried it. I think it will work perfectly.

rowan felted tweedThe color is Watery. I have to order a few more balls from my LYS, and I might hold off on breaking into this ball until they get here, in case the dye lots look different, but I can continue my swatching in another color I have leftover in the meantime. This is not my only new sweater fantasy.

I was also just drooling over this new Jared Flood sweater. First the yardage requirements really threw me for a loop, but then I saw that it was fingering weight held double. I can try to get that gauge in some worsted weight and use up more of my extensive (thank you anniversary sale from WEBSCascade 220 stash. I also have 1620 yards of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock dying to be something. It was a xmas present from Matt last year, and I fully intended to make a Walpole. That’s definitely still an option, but I’m not totally sure. I also have Cascade Eco set aside for a Teddywidder. That’s a mid-January snuggle-me-sweater. And last, but definitely not least, I want to make Matt a Hugo this year, out of the Mallard Cascade 220 in my stash, because it will make his blue eyes sing. I’m planning on getting that done by December 12, for our 1 yr wedding anniversary. I always see baby sweaters that thrill me. Those are much more impulsive knits, because I almost always have something in my stash that can become a baby sweater at a moment’s notice. I get a little thrill from Abate, and will probably make it for Zooey, even though the smallest size is 2T. Maybe I can use some Jo Sharp “DK” on that one…

Just fantasizing about the sweaters is almost as delicious as casting them on. Almost.

Ambitious much?
