Sometimes I’m so in love with the idea of the yarn that it’s hard to actually let myself knit it. I’m sure I’m not alone in this… Some stash seems too precious, especially if it’s yarn that’s hard to find. I believe I purchased this yarn back in 2008 or so and I’ve been hoarding stashing it ever since. It’s some Opal Hundertwasser self-striping yarn from one of the first Hundertwasser collections. It’s color 650, called Der Blaue Mond. It was inspired by this painting. I was so in love with it I had to buy two skeins. I’m finally letting myself knit one skein.hundertwasser-3

I left these socks unmatched. It’s kind of fun to have fraternal twin socks, because there’s something different and interesting happening on both socks as you knit them.hundertwasser-2

I really love Opal sock yarns. Sometimes it’s hard to let myself knit them, rather than just collect them, but at least when I do knit them I know they’ll last a long time. They’re durable, and they have all kinds of fun self-striping prints. I don’t hesitate to wash and dry socks from their yarns, and they continue to look good.

Right now I’m coveting some Little Prince colorways. I’ve knit one pair of Harry Potter themed sock yarns in the Ron Weasley colorway. I liked it so much that I decided to get more of that color to knit socks for myself. They also recently came out with a Van Gogh set of colors. I got that in Sunflowers. I apologize for all the Ravelry links if you’re not a Raveller, but they usually have really clean pics with most of the colorways. You can google any of these and find more visuals.hundertwasser

Speaking of Ravelry…anyone doing Ravellenics alongside the Olympics? I’m contemplating making Matt a sweater with some Cascade Eco+ (Aran weight for quick knitting) as long as I’m making good progress on the Pensacola Sweater at that time. I don’t want to take on too much and drive myself crazy, but I haven’t participated in the last two Ravellenic (formerly Ravelympics) events and I’d like to try this time. Are you participating? What are you knitting?
