I’m no stranger to buying yarn to enhance my stash and store for future projects. Recently it came to my attention that my under-the-bed storage system is getting overly full. Thus, it seems time to make a giant shawl. I was recently admiring some posts about Dotted Rays by my friend Sarah Jo. I decided this was the giant shawl for me!

I’m using two yarns purchased on separate occasions–the pale mint color is Julep in some fingering weight merino by Knerd String. That was a recent Denver purchase. The green Koigu KPPPM (P841) was a purchase from Knit Purl in Portland circa 2009, so its time has come. The teal color is Cloudborn Merino superwash in Ocean that I purchased on a whim from Craftsy to see what it was like. I haven’t decided how much striping I will do, but I’m thinking I’ll knit about 40% or so of the first color before I incorporate striping, feeling free to change my mind as soon or as often as I like.

It’s going to be hard to tear myself away from this to ensure that I keep working on Astonish Top, but I’m also really motivated to be able to wear that one, so I’m sure that will help. I don’t usually make shawls this large, but I couldn’t decide on just a combination of two colors. I’m starting to feel like I have too many projects on the needles (coughs, 7 things)…but it’s just so fun to cast new things on!

In an effort to remove some of my stash I’m going to be doing some giveaways soon, so stay tuned!
