I’m done having babies, but I still get to celebrate all of my friends that have upcoming babies! I was thrilled to hand off this baby blanket to a dear friend at her baby shower this past weekend. She is also an office mate, and I’ve been working on it as stealthily as I could in the office, so many times it’s been stuffed behind a pillow to remain a secret.

This is a palette kit by Tanis Fiber Arts, and this particular palette is called Hummingbird. Tanis has bunch of drool worthy color palettes up now. Hummingbird is not available, but I would knit every single one of them. This is now my absolute favorite way to make a baby blanket.

I’m a creature of habit. I like to make a Pinwheel Baby Blanket, because a round blanket is lovely and a little unexpected. It’s also endless stockinette, so even though every other round gets a little bigger and by the end you feel like every round is endless, it’s a fantastic knit for doing other things while your hands just work.

I used to make more baby blankets in fingering weight yarn, washable of course, but since learning about these DK weight palette kits, I’m not going back. The yarn is washable and the blanket goes so much faster in a heavier weight. I just ordered a Dusty Rose kit for another mom-to-be’s upcoming offspring, so you’ll see more blanket action soon!
