I survived my second Oshima pullover. My first was this one that I did about 5 years ago (where does the time go?!). This time around I used the recommended Brooklyn Tweed Loft yarn in the colorway Button Jar. I’ve been coveting that color for a long time.

When I started I bought the recommended amount for the 38″ size I was aiming for. I happily knit along and then when I reached the collar I realized I was going to run out of yarn because I forgot that I added length when I originally made this sweater. That’s never a great feeling. I found some online in the same dye lot (miracle!), but then I had to wait almost a full week to be able to complete it.

I continued on when I got the yarn and got closer and closer to the end of that collar only to discover I was still close to running out of yarn. Horrors! Luckily I dragged out every piece I had, including my swatch and was able to make it work. I might be a 1/4 inch short on the collar, but really, whose going to measure that?

All in all, I’m super happy to have another Oshima finished. My original one has worn in so many places and gotten holes. I am not sure it’s worth repairing because I can see weak spots where it will continue to get holes. It had a good life and was worn about twice a week in the cold weather during the past five winters.

How do you say goodbye to knits that are too worn to repair? This one has so much love I feel it needs some kind of ritual.
