This is my second Flaum cardigan. The first one I gave away, not loving the fit. This one I will definitely keep.
I used the recommended Quince and Co. Owl. The color is Cerulean. The vibe is polished rustic. Though patterns almost always recommend a yarn, I experiment with different ones most of the time.
This is a pattern that really shines in the recommended yarn. I previously made this with two strands of fingering superwash held together and I did not like it at all. This time I have made a sweater I will wear over and over.
I do wish that this pattern had provided a gauge for the fisherman’s rib portion. I got the recommended gauge in 1×1 rib after washing my swatch, but I think my fisherman’s rib part must have been a little looser than the sample. This baby GREW when I wet-blocked it. Like, grew so much I was frantically squishing it back into place. It ended up longer than intended. I don’t mind a little oversized width, but I was aiming for the recommended slightly cropped look. I think it would coordinate with more of my dresses if it was cropped.
This looks amazing on you! love the color.
It looks great!
Oh wow, it looks super cozy!! I might have to put this on my list after all … Congratulations on a new favourite thing in your wardrobe! 🙂
Very cute and comfy looking! I am a shameless substituter of yarns so it is good to know when a pattern really needs to be knit in the original yarn.
I substitute a lot as well. I think a substitute would be fine if it was a little more coarse or fluffy and in the right weight. My first attempt was two strands of fingering held together and that didn’t work at all.
Ohh good to know!
