This is my second, and not my final pair of Arthur pants. I already have a third pair cut in some copper linen. These are made with double gauze from Mood Fabrics. While they are a breezy delight to wear, I did struggle with the flat felled seam with this material. My top is a Striped Wedge Pullover that I blogged about awhile back. Check out that post if you want more details.

img_4085I missed catching the seam in a couple of little spots that I did not notice until I washed them to wash away the wonder tape. I elected to try to secure these by hand, rather than rip out the seams and try to redo them. Ripping out seams in double gauze is a hellish nightmare. I had to rip out seams on the pockets because I confidently plunged ahead without double checking the pocket orientation before joining them both to the pants and doing the understitching for the pockets before I realized I had it wrong. That was a major pain in the ass and I had to take my time to avoid destroying the edge of the fabric. I could have used a drink while ripping things out, but I was worried that it might have affected my abilities to do things neatly. That was the worst part of these pants. The double gauze, even secured with the wonder tape, was much more wiggly than the first pair with the stiff heavy knit. My next pair will be with some crisp linen so I feel that will be relaxing in comparison.DSC_3428

This material was worth the pain in the ass in the end because these feel like super breezy secret pajama bottoms that are great for warmer weather. I think I could have made these a teeny bit shorter. I almost catch them on the back of my sandals if they’re not pulled up to a high waist position.img_4088

I left the back pockets off of this version because I knew I would not be likely to use them in this material. I thought in double gauze that anything heavier than a piece of paper would be likely to pull the pants down in an unattractive way. The front pockets are a different story because they have the support from being sewn into the waistband, so they are not pulled down by a phone n the pocket. That’s a wonderful design feature of these.
