I’ve been swatching to make a sweater for a film called Tell Them of Us. Many knitters are participating in a project called Orkney to Omaha that involves recreating historical knits. I’ve been assigned the following sweater:
Here is the yarn: I received it two days ago. Yesterday I finished my swatch and wet blocked it.
As with many historical patterns, this one leaves a lot for the user to figure out on her own. I’m going to have to do some strategizing, but I have all of the measurements for the actress and an accurate gauge swatch, so here I go!
Good luck! And have a nice weekend 🙂
This is so exciting!! I am going to enjoy watching the movie star sweater develop! And hey, this should shorten your degrees away from Kevin Bacon number! LOL! Beautiful yarn and beautiful sweater. Good luck!
How exciting! Good luck!
What a cool project! You have so much sweater experience, I’m sure it will go well!
Such a gorgeous sweater to recreate! Good luck to you, can’t wait to read/see how it grows up!!!
What a great project! Wish you luck!
I love the vintage look, and the colour of the wool is amazing <3
Good luck! Love the colour of your wool. Looking forward to see how you get on 🙂 x
I just love vintage designs and this one is just gorgeous. I have a lot of vintage patterns. I found one size fits all but that they are specific in some ways but not others. Have fun. 😀
That is so exciting! I am sure it will come out great as all of your garments are spectacular and I love the way you modify all the patterns to fit. It’s helped me in making sweaters that fit much better. Can’t wait to see the pictures.
What a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to see the results!
I can’t wait to watch this progress 🙂
Wow! Knitting for a movie! Very exciting! Good luck with the project. I’m sure you’ll make us all proud 🙂
I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Sounds like a great project and that is an awesome color. Can’t wait to see it finished. Good Luck!
I would love to join that project too, are they still looking for knitters?
Thats such a great idea for a project. How interesting to knit an older pattern! Looking forward to seeing the results. Good luck xx
Good luck and happy knitting 🙂
Do you think you’ll be able to publish the pattern eventually?
I think I will just try to write up some good notes about what I did to interpret the existing pattern and share them. I’m not sure I will try to size it and write up a downloadable pdf.
Could the colour be any more perfect?
That looks like it will be an interesting sweater to work out. It seems almost like a jacket designed to fit over a very specific dress style. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do.
I’m a little nervous about the sleeves, but I’m sure it will work out somehow.
I love that you are knitting this sweater! I have the original 1918 book it came from and I posed the pattern on my own blog more than a year ago, for anyone else who wants to give it a go: http://knitbyahenshop.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/knitting-for-victory-free-knitting-patterns-included/
That’s awesome! Thanks for the link. I’d love to know if others have knit this because all tips are welcome!
what fun!
Love the pattern. Cannot wait to see the finished product.
It’s so pretty and feminine! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
I followed the link and read about the project…SO COOL! Can’t wait to see updates on your sweater, and follow the larger film project blog too.
That’s a gorgeous sweater, I can’t wait to see what you make of it. I think it’s the severe waist shaping that really gets me!
