We moved just last week and I wanted to add some little touches here and there. There is always an adaptation period when moving into a new space and for the most part this space immediately felt cozy and like home to me. There are some rooms that get great light, all the walls are a soft grey, and the living area floors are a beautiful wood. I liked the space before we moved in, but after we had most of the things in their places I really began to love it. Well, I knit things for those I love. I decided the house needed a little gift, so I made a few things. 
The dishcloths were inspired by my grandma. I got to see her last weekend for the first time in ages and we spent some nice time knitting together. She worked on some dishcloths while I worked on my brother’s sweater. The sleeves on that sweater turned out to be a bit of a minor disaster, but that’s for another post.
When I got home I thought I should make myself some dishcloths. As Matt and I were packing I threw many out that seemed to used or stained for my liking. Making cute new ones has even more appeal, plus I got to use up some yarn that’s been in my possession since about 2006. Double bonus. The dishcloth pattern is this one. 
For the hand towel I just cast on 49 stitches in the Sugar n’ Cream cotton yarn and did garter stitch and seed stitch whenever I felt like it, alternating colors or striping once in awhile. It ended up being about 10.5 inches wide and 25.5 inches long. I used almost a full ball of the tan and the yellow and only about 1/4 or less of the teal ball. The variety in the pattern kept things interesting. 
That used up all my Sugar n’ Cream stash, but I think I might just have to try some Knit Picks Dishie and make more towels and dishcloths. Scroll down on the Knit Picks link to see some lovely dishcloth ideas. I really like the idea of having a few lovely towels to put up in the bathroom and kitchen. I’m inspired to make this one and this one. Why not get joy out of the things you use and surround yourself with more beautiful knits to touch on a daily basis? I see nothing amiss about that.
I have been looking for a in between project. I have a toddler running around and it’s difficult to have, what I call ‘thinking project’. I have dish clothes but I’m exciting to try this dish towel 🙂

The dishcloths look really pretty – I was against them for ages (every time I saw them, I heard “BACTERIA! BACTERIA!” in my head – but since I have finally taken the bull by the horns and made myself three, I have to say that I changed my mind – I really like them. 🙂

I really love this! I never thought I’d really knit for my home because I used to be so worried about becoming some silly stereotype, but yesterday I bought a book of knitted doily patterns… and now I want to make dishcloths for my home too!
I’ve never knit a dishcloth but they sure are wonderful to use. Not even sure what yarn to buy ; )

I love knitting in cotton,especially Sugar n Cream! I can’t bring myself to use the dishcloths I make on cleaning the kitchen in case they get bleach on them. I use them as face cloths instead! 🙂

Oh I love these! I have made some dishcloths before but never even considered a hand towel! Genius. I don’t think I have seen Sugar n Cream in the UK – is it just cotton I should use for the hand towel? Thanks, Hannah 🙂
Yep. 100% cotton worsted weight. Look for something that might be absorbent. I used some cotton, maybe Pima cotton, for napkins before and it was terrible for absorbing any liquid.
Right-o! I used Rowan’s All Season Cotton last time I made washcloths, I think I’ll give that a go again; its so soft, and if I remember correctly its pretty absorbent. Thanks!
