I got the opportunity to try another Knitcrate sock subscription box and this time I received some Buffalo Wool Co. Tracks Sport. The color is Amethyst. This isn’t a yarn I would have sought out for myself. I’ve never knitted socks in a heavier weight than fingering, but I’m really enjoying this project and am falling in love with this yarn. It’s making me rethink using sport weight yarn for socks.

I’m making Hermione’s Everyday Socks from the toe up. For my size (women’s 9.5) I only had to increase to 48 stitches. That means these are going by lightening fast. So far they’ve accompanied me to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as well as Rogue One. I’m knitting these on a size 1 so they’ll be durable. The feel a teeny bit stiff while I’m knitting them, but I know the smaller tension will help them last longer. These socks seem like they will be perfect for single digit cold weather days.

This is my fourth time using this pattern and it’s lovely as always. It’s easy enough to do in a dark movie theater, so it passes my test for meditative knitting. I have gotten distracted by another lovely project, but I’d estimate that these will be finished in a matter of hours. It would be interesting to figure up exactly how many fewer hours sport weight socks take in comparison to fingering weight socks, but that’s a project for another day.
