I have a new baby to knit for and she’s due in July. My brother and his girlfriend are expecting, so naturally I must knit them a baby blanket. My favorite go-to baby blanket is a Pinwheel Blanket. When I decided I would make one I went looking for some fun kits and came across Tanis Fiber Arts TFA Palettes. Though all of the kits are gorgeous, I immediately fell in love with the Summer. I decided to ask the mom-to-be what she liked best and she chose Camaro.
I’m so excited to see how this develops. The colors included are: ravine, lotus, chris grey, saffron, caramel, garnet, orchid, bisou. I’m starting with bisou and working toward the ravine color. I often make these blankets in fingering weight and use about 1200 yards. This yarn is DK weight and the kit has a total of 1,040 yards. I’m not sure how big this will end up being, but I’m knitting it on a size 7 and just seeing what happens. They live in Minnesota, so a warmer and bigger blanket will likely get plenty of use.
Knowing myself, this will not be enough to entertain me constantly, so I have a goal of getting at least one color finished every week. I recently replaced my broken ball winder with a Stanwood Needlecraft ballwinder (which I should review because it’s completely awesome) and Zooey was able to help me wind most of the yarn. This is really a whole family project. I started this last Saturday. I may post as each color develops just to keep myself accountable.
In the meantime, I’m also finishing one shawl and casting on another. More soon!
Wow; that is one deluxe ball winder. I like how this pattern can be used for any colored yarn.
I have the same ball winder and I love it! It can take a lot of yarn in any thickness. I’ve had mine a little over 2 years now and it’s still going strong! Thanks for the inspiration on the baby blanket. I’ve already started another pattern for a little baby girl that I’m knitting for; however I love this one and will probably knit it next so I have some backup gifts 🙂
ooh, that blanket is going to be amazing! Love the palette you/your sister in law chose. 🙂
Love the colours of that yarn. Looking forward to seeing more pics as it grows
Ooh! I can’t wait to see this blanket grow! It’s going to be stunning! 😊 And I love those TFA palettes! I think my favorites are the Hot Purple and Summer! 😉
