I have finished the Kinton top, but as I lack pictures for it yet, I’m on to talking about the next knitting adventure. This yarn is some Shibui Kavo in the color Brick that I bought on clearance last summer at my LYS. I had five skeins sitting in my stash, silently accusing me of ignoring them as I drooled over the latest issue of Pompom at knit night on Thursday. I could feel their stony disapproval. I will be making some lovely things out of that issue of Pompom, but in the meantime, I decided to quell my stashing guilt and use the most summer appropriate yarn I already had on hand.

This is a pattern I’m making up as I go along. It will be a tank top. After some research on Ravelry, other users of this yarn noted how much slant the knitted fabric has when it’s worked in stockinette. Several people recommended moss stitch. Thus, an idea was born. I started out working separate pieces with a flat edge. Then I realized there was no good reason to avoid knitting in the round if I had taken care of the potential leaning fabric issues. Sometimes knitting in the round can make those issues worse. Then I rethought the flat edge and decided some curved edges made with short rows would be nice, so I worked the front and back separately until I completed the curves, then I joined them.

To me, the yarn looks like many scribbles on a page. I think this is made at a gauge that will let me avoid a tank top underneath. I considered writing up the pattern for this, but Kavo has been discontinued. I’m going for a light A-line shape with little ease in the bust. I think I’ll end up making a scoop neck. It’s kind of fun to have very little plan and just see what happens.

Hope y’all are having a good Memorial Day!
