I had this lovely Euroflax Sport in my stash and knew it was destined to be a top this summer. I stopped myself from making a third Kit Camisole. I’ve made two of them before, and they’re lovely to wear in the summer, but they had their unpleasant moments. Euroflax is 100% linen, and while it is delightful to wear and is incredibly durable (wash and dry all you like), it is stiff as a board. That means my fingers can’t knit for as many hours as I’d like. To top it off, both of those Kit Camisoles had to be knit on size 1 needles to get close to gauge, as the recommended yarn was fingering weight. I decided to save my fingers and my sanity this time and switch to another kind of summer top.
After some deep Ravelry perusing I came across this gem, Darlene. It’s simple, but elegant. The gauge allows me to use a size 2 needle (although the pattern calls for a size 4). I love the look of the cap sleeve and the gentle garter ridges. I can imagine throwing on this top over and over in warm weather. I’ve already imagined what colors I might use for a second version, though in cotton as recommended next time.
This summer is all about tops and socks so far! More to come.
This is a fun color, perfect for summer.
I’ve knit with Euroflax once before and made a baby dress. I loved the end results but you’re right it was torture on my hands. I have the same issues with Hempathy so I try my best to alternate between a cotton fiber and wool project simultaneously to save my hands.
Looks pretty! I have only knitted with linen once and it was wretched on the hands! Unfortunately it was an UFO for a long time and then I frogged it too!
