Darlene has been finished for a couple of weeks, and joyously worn both in the 90+ degree heat here, and in the much cooler 75 degree temps in San Francisco this week. It has served me well.
I used Euroflax Sport in Orchid and used about 2.5 skeins. I made the 36″ size and added a wee bit of length, but I could have easily left the length as specified, since I forgot that this top would relax and lengthen just slightly as I wear it. No matter. It’s a good length either way. I will probably make this top in some cotton before the summer is out because it is really flattering and great to wear. I did add waist shaping, using mirrored decreases to reduce by 16 stitches spaced over several inches, and then increasing again before the bottom. I did add one extra set of increases.
This top is super easy care. In fact, it’s in the dryer right now. I anticipate wearing it weekly (at least) until the weather starts to get cold. I highly recommend this simple pattern if you want a warm weather top that could be casual or work appropriate, depending on your work environment.
Back to knitting!
The top looks great, nice fit and colour. I admire your use of 100% linen – having not had much success myself with working with linen yarn – just found it a bit tough on my hands.
Looks great! Smart alterations, too, which are probably why it fits so well. Never knit with linen. I will have to try it. Any tips?
Thanks! My best tip is just to give your hands breaks. I have some kind of softer wool project going because the linen is stiff. However, the gauge never really changes for me with blocking, so what you see is what you get.
Good to know! I find acrylic hard on the hands after a while, so I know this will be true for me. But that the gauge is the gauge is kind of neat.
hello i am not very tech savvy where would I be able to find the pattern to make this beautiful top please x
Hi! It’s available electronically on Ravelry. If you are not able to purchase it through that means you might try contacting the designer herself. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/darlene
