I started working on Vasarely at the beginning of a trip to San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. Though this pattern isn’t difficult, I ended up ripping out the beginning of it at least 3 times due to the inability to sit and work on it for a long enough stretch at one time to get my bearings. Once you get into the pattern a bit it becomes much more predictable and rhythmic.

I’m using the recommended Anzula Milky Way yarn, shown in Nimbus and Charcoal. I love this yarn so far. It’s 90% milk protein and 10% merino and feels delicious. I think it was the perfect choice for this shawl, but it was a bit hard to find online. I ended up buying it from this site in the UK, because that was the only place I found two colors that I liked with enough contrast in one place. It took some time to arrive, and I awaited it eagerly.

The lines on the shawl vary, and they get increasingly more frequent as the shawl is worked. I’ve moved on to the next section, but that’s not shown in these pictures. I don’t usually wear shawls this large, but I’m thinking I might take it up more often because I know I’m going to want to wear this when it’s done.

This project takes a moderate amount of attention. Once I’m well into a section of it and I know exactly what I’m doing, it usually goes well, but I have to stop and check that my increases and decreases match every once in awhile. I’ve had to rip back a few rows in other places because I forgot about one side of the increase, etc., as I put things down in the middle of a row.

This is a perfect summer shawl. I highly recommend both the pattern and the yarn so far !
