In the midst of working on other projects, I started feeling like I needed one more stockinette thing going. Previously, Zooey had gone through a phase where she did not appreciate the hand knit socks I cranked out for her. Now she seems to have turned a corner and will wear them again. We went through my fingering weight leftover bags together and came up with these two colors. The reddish-purple is Archangel by Malabrigo and the gorgeous gold is Saffron by Hazel Knits in Artisan Sock.

I was knitting these during a therapy session and one of my clients pointed out that they were Gryffindor colors. I hadn’t even noticed, which is a bit silly considering how much I love Harry Potter. Zooey also has a special connection to Harry Potter because she shares her birthday with HP (July 31st).

We recently got the newer book version of book one that has with illustrations. Matt and I have been very excited to read it with her. We got to the part with a troll in the first book and she decided it was too intense for her right now. I can’t wait to return to it someday, and now she will have some cozy Gryffindor socks to accompany that journey.

These socks were done with my Kiddo Kicks pattern, with a couple modifications. I did a contrast toe until the toe increases were complete. I also switched to the contrast yarn from the start of the heel flap under the foot until the end of the heel turn. I did 1×1 ribbing instead of 2×2 in the pattern as well. These are shown in the largest size, and her shoe size is around 10-11 in most shoes, so her feet are about 16.25 cm.

You will probably see several more kid pairs coming soon, as they were so quick and satisfying I think I will make more pairs for her friends. Perhaps modeled by Zooey…
