Ok, so this sweater is not actually shrinking. It just feels like it. This is Docklight and it’s a gloriously beautiful pattern from Brooklyn Tweed. However, the fisherman’s rib just will not grow. I don’t think I’m giving a trade secret away to say that I’m knitting until it’s 15 inches at the armpit, and it seems to hover perpetually at 13 inches, no matter how much I knit it. I’ve been doing the thing where you put a stitch marker in place to measure the progress, yet when I measure the total piece, it still hovers around 13 inches!

This yarn is some Ochroid in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock in Mediumweight. It used to be a Rocky Coast Cardigan, but I never seemed to wear it. I loved the yarn too much to just let that be, so after ripping some, sticking it in a drawer, and then unearthing it and ripping some more, washing and re-winding the yarn, I decided Docklight was an appropriate sweater companion for the yarn. I’m not using the correct gauge, so I sized up to the second largest size to (crossing my fingers hard) get a 40 inch circumference. I did swatch and even wet-blocked it, but I have a feeling this sweater is more mysterious than meets the eye. It’s been pretty squirrelly so far. I also felt totally sure that I had enough yarn at the outset, but considering how much this fabric devours it, I’m now having my doubts about that too. If I don’t make it, there will be a fantastic disaster post at some point. Or I can always make the sleeves stockinette instead of ribbed to save yarn…

I haven’t made mistakes really (that I can tell) but I think someone inserted a black hole into this and I’ll be knitting it forever. One slight issue is that the lace panel in the center is slightly taller than the surrounding ribbing. I’m not sure if the measurement of height should be taken at the edges or the middle, so I think I’m going to split the difference.

This is also supposed to be my Summer Sweater KAL project (SSKAL), but I jumped the gun by about 2 weeks and started it on July 31st. I’ve done this KAL a few different years and it previously started at the very end of July. Well, I was so excited to knit a fall sweater in this yarn that I could not wait for the official announcement to start and I just started on July 31st. Oops. I’m still counting it as an SSKAL project.
