So far this sweater is going better than expected. Despite feeling like it was never growing in length, it eventually did get to the 15.5 inches and I moved on to the armhole shaping. Then things went much more quickly with the body.

This sweater is Docklight and I’m knitting it in a different weight yarn than the pattern specifies. I’m using Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Mediumweight (that’s a mouthful) in Ochroid. Yardage-wise I should have plenty based on my gauge swatch, but as I continued to knit and saw how much this fabric devoured I began to worry. I’m knitting the 50.5″ bust size because those numbers in this yarn weight get the sweater to the 40-ish” size I’d like to have. I love not having to do additional math to alter the pattern, so I’m really pleased this seeems to be working out.

Now I’m on to the sleeves and I was having a wee bit of anxiety about having enough yarn. I think I’m at about 15 out of the 18 inches needed before shaping the sleeve cap. I kept thinking I was possibly going to run out of yarn, but now that I’ve taken a picture with the remaining pile of yarn next to it I realized that is much less likely than the scenario has been playing out in my head.

I can’t wait to finish these sleeves. As soon as that is done I’m immediately casting on for a Marshal. I’ve already swatched and wet-blocked the swatch for it. I know if I let myself cast on before I finish these sleeves that I will want to abandon Docklight, so that’s not allowed. Working on other small projects, totally allowed…

More about that soon!
