I’m so excited to share pictures of Marshal. We are deeply in love. I already wore it twice last week since finishing it. It’s a lovey design that’s simple to follow. This color is Embers and the yarn is Brooklyn Tweed Shelter and Loft.

I added a few inches of extra length to the body because I have a long torso. I accidentally knit the button band backwards, but I don’t mind it at all and I’m sure it will be erased from my memory at some point. The Loft and Shelter yarns in Embers are so light and warm and delicious to knit with. I look forward to using them again in many future projects.

What I would change about this sweater is the shoulder fit. I made the 40 inch size, which leaves a few inches of comfortable ease for me. Many Brooklyn Tweed patterns suggest several inches of ease and this one is no exception. However, the top of the sleeve cap was a little wider than I typically make on sweaters, and the measurement across the top of the shoulder on the front and back after shoulder shaping was also wider. This would have been easy to remedy had I been paying attention earlier into the pattern, but as it stands now, I’m just going to live with it. A wider measurement there means that the shoulder does not sit well at my actual shoulder (see above), which is usually one of the best features of a set-in sleeve. I can live with it, and I love it all the same, but I’ll definitely keep that in mind for my next set in sleeve. I could have pulled that in with a narrower collar or more narrow shoulder shaping. Live and learn!

The seaming on the sweater is no joke. There are three pockets, their pocket flaps, the shoulder seams, sleeve seams, side seams, and 10 buttons to sew on. That took me a few days, working in little bits. I think it’s worth it and I love the finished product.

I didn’t take any pictures with the front all buttoned, but it’s nice that way as well and the extra ease means it doesn’t have any gaps. Marshal and I are going to be great friends this coming fall and winter.
