This Migration cardigan has been absolutely addictive. I started it on December 23rd, I think, after some swatching in the car on the way to my parent’s house. I decided to make things fun/difficult for myself, of course, by using a different gauge yarn (DK instead of worsted). I’m using Kelbourne Woolens Scout in Coral Heather. This is swiftly becoming one of my new favorite yarns. It has a great price point and is pretty soft for a non-merino. I wish it was made in the US, but I guess you can’t have everything.

I planned on going up a size and following those numbers to get the size I really wanted. I was on the fence for a bit as there is a point in the sizing where it jumps from a 44 inch chest to about 53 inches as the next size up. Working the 53 inch size would have given me a bit bigger than I really wanted and it would have required more yarn. Nope. I reworked my swatch on a size 6 US needle and got a result that still looked great and would give me the size I wanted while allowing me to knit the 44 inch chest size to get a 42 inch actual size. Does this all sound like nonsense? It makes sense in my head. By this time I had already worked about 5 inches of the sweater, so I had to rip and restart with the larger needle. But I didn’t mind at all. That’s just part of knitting life.

And just look at that beauty. The pattern is simple, but addictive. I’ve had abbreviated work weeks the past couple of weeks and I’ve been almost solely tackling this gem during that time. I kept meaning to blog about it sooner, but then I just kept getting further along and thought I should wait to take an updated picture. The back and fronts are blocking and I’m onto the sleeves!
