Ok, ok. I have a stashing problem. I can fully admit it. A few weeks ago I was looking around for some sock yarn to make Matt more socks. He’s almost worn through the ball of the foot on three different pairs, in a way that’s too big to repair. To keep me from only wanting to make sweaters, I have to keep things interesting with wild and fun yarns. Plus, for him I need them to be durable. Enter, wild and crazy Opal sock yarns.
This pair is fresh of the needles and uses the colorway “Tender Dinghi” (color 2103). I used my usual toe-up two at a time heel flap formula. For inspiration, see my sock patterns.
They put out so many great colorways and take inspiration from a lot of artists, like Van Gogh and Hundertwasser. My latest obsession involves stashing some Hundertwasser inspired yarns. I was perusing Etsy late at night (always a risk) and came across someone selling lots of them. I limited myself to four. EEK!
That, coupled with watching just a half an episode of Tidying Up on Netflix sent me into a minor guilt ridden tailspin. The next day I went through my stash with some brazen honesty and loaded up two grocery bags to hand off to knitting friends.
I still could probably get rid of more, but the rest brings me joy… for now….

I’m also a sucker for multi-colored sock yarns. Opal is one of the better brands out there. The yarn seems to be extra durable.
It is possible (says she who is married to a man who loves knitted socks and wears a US 13 and likes his socks with 1;1 rib above the ankle) to rip and reknit socks that can’t be darned – pick up where good fabric remains and knit the other way.
I think that’s a great idea!
