I never foresaw myself loving a sweater this fluffy. Cumulus Blouse is the name of this snuggle-of-a-sweater. I used Shibui Silk Cloud in Cove and took slightly less 5 skeins to make it.
I love the light breeziness of this sweater. It weighs less than 125 grams. It seems like it will be the perfect travel sweater for in-between weather, and it will take up a scant amount of space. I didn’t think I would be using it much until the fall, but we’ve had a few cooler days and a trip to the movie theater, so she’s seen some action.
I wore this to work for half of the day (with a tee underneath). Wearing it alone seems suitable for wanting to go out while wearing some slightly sexy knitwear. I’m a fan.
Naturally, the girls adore the fluffy nature of this sweater and have demanded ones for themselves. There is no way I’m holding two strands of lace weight together for kid sweaters. That part of this pattern (yarn held doubled) drove me bonkers because I was constantly finding a strand dropped here and there that I wanted to go back and fix. I did my best, but didn’t obsess. I’m sure it’s one of those things I’ll completely forget about at some point.
What I will do for the little ladies is make fluffy sweaters out of something at least fingering weight or larger. Any recommendations for super soft and fluffy yarns? Preferably with mostly natural content.
Show-stopping work!
Great result and very stylish!
Probably not everybody’s cup of tea but I usually buy vintage/old stock mohair (the one of good quality, so it’s murky natural fibre like mohair & wool). It costs much less than the high end fluffy yarn and it’s good for the environment.
Seeing your nice sweater made me want to knot one too!
Typo, I meant “mostly natural fibre”, of course…
I read another blog Knitwithattitude and now this Knittheheallout! Awesome.
That is gorgeous! There are a lot of patterns out there that call for holding one strand of mohair with another yarn to get some of the fluffy effect – that would still give you the issue of missing one of the yarns in any given stitch, but would get something easier to knit for the girls! (They might smell a rat when theirs looks diff than yours though!!)
I would go back to this one and weave in another small piece of mohair in any pesky spots that didn’t get the two strands! Way easier than trying to fix while knitting!
Enjoy!
It’s fabulous!
Good work
