This knitting story started with some irresistible silky tweed yarn from my LYS. I saw the BC Garn Tussah Tweed in this delightful color (rust aqua) and knew I had to make something with it. I bought four skeins and stashed it for a couple of months until I found the right thing.

In a text thread with a couple of knitting friends one of them threw out Catchfly as a potential pattern they were considering. I saw it and immediately thought of the Tussah Tweed as a possibility. Catchfly is from Pompom magazine from a few seasons back. Technically, the yarn used is worsted, rather than the fingering weight I’m using, but their gauge is 22 stitches over 4 inches on a 3mm needle. That sounds a little painful. I checked gauge with my yarn and the same needles and got gauge, so I went with it. I think my sweater will be a much lighter version than the intended sweater, so it will work well for Arkansas summers full of crazy humidity.

This pattern is super simple. If you haven’t done lace, this is a really easy place to start. Everything repeats every eight rows and it’s very easy to memorize once you’ve done a repeat or two. Very low intimidation factor. And the rest of the pattern is breezy stockinette.

I’m loving the crazy pops of orange and aqua in this tweed. It makes me think a little of copper in stages of newness to rust and I love that color combo. I’ve been getting distracted by the SSKAL (which I totally rerouted), and the third Tegna, but I then remind myself that this Catchfly is the only one that is seasonally appropriate to wear, so I keep coming back to it.

Ah, summer knitting. I really never get tired of knitting, no matter the season. What are your favorite summer tops this year?
