This outfit strikes me as a Jedi-pirate vibe. When I put in on this morning with these dirty-hair-don’t-care pigtail buns, Matt was amused and proceeded to look for a Star Wars picture with this vibe. I’m loving creating a relaxed wardrobe.
Over the weekend I couldn’t resist firing off another pair of Bob Pants. The fabric is some tencel twill that I got on Fabric.com a couple of months ago. The fabric is nice and light and seems like it won’t wrinkle very easily. I think I would enjoy these even more oversized. I picked the size that was just a couple of inches of positive ease for my hip measurement, but I think another size or two up for a fabric with good drape would also be amazing. I confess that I did not even look at the recommended size for my measurements, but maybe for a future pair I’ll go wild with the positive ease and see what happens. They’re very comfortable as is. I did swing a little wide through the hip when I cut them, and went a little more narrow at the ankle to exaggerate the cocoon shape. This is as much as I’m comfortable shifting between sizes.
The top is an Envelope by Cris Wood Sews. The pattern is for a dress, but I’ve seen some cute top versions on Instagram. Full disclosure: I fucked up following the pattern well for the top. Even thought the pattern is really simple, my brain wasn’t doing well at shifting the pattern into a top and I made a mistake with the width. I thought it was unfixable, then I just decided to add some side panels and salvage it.
I ended up liking it quite a bit. This fabric is the double gauze that I used on the Washi Dress a week ago. I’m very pleased with the garment yield for this fabric because out of four yards I was able to make a Washi Dress, this top, and a Mini Ogden for both Zooey and Charlotte. I would not have been able to make a tank for both kids had I not messed up this top a bit, so really it all worked out for the best.
Officially, I’m in love with double gauze. It feels like I’m wearing a lightweight squishy blanket and I am definitely here for that.
I promise this won’t become an all-sewing blog. I’m really only knitting socks and those are not super interesting to post about over and over. I am about to finish a third pair for Matt, likely today, and I’ll round up three pairs to photograph and put in one post.
How is your summer of quarantine knitting going?
Nice!
This outfit is amazing. It looks chic and casual and comfy, and makes this novice sewer want to make those pants!
Thanks so much! The pants are pretty simple and are definitely good for a beginner. The pattern does not instruct the sewist to finish seams, so that would be my only advice.
Love those pants. I can’t sew and don’t have a machine- but I will covet them from here.
Wow! Another cute outfit! You certainly are productive! I love the comfortable, cool look of this. I have found that all I want to wear during the stay-at-home is comfy clothes and I don’t seem to have a lot of those for this hot weather we have been having in my area . I wish I could sew like you but don’t think my attempts would turn out as nice as yours. Love that gauzy fabric and you got so many items out of it! Great job!
Thank you so much! I think you might do better than you think with some practice. This material IS a pain in the ass if you have to rip it out. I’ve had major duds in this sewing journey, but I don’t post all of those. 😉
The drape of the double gauze really flatters you. My knitting has been weird. Really, really weird. I knit every day and have no finished objects.
It sounds like you’re not monogamous with your knitting. More fun, but slower. I’m having trouble getting excited about summer tops this year because it feels like it’s been so crazy hot. My brain is already thinking about fall cardigans. Plus, I think I’m just ready for this entire year to be over and I wouldn’t mind jumping into the winter.
Yes, you are right. To top that off, I tend to knit more meditatively then productively. I would like something to show for it, though! 🙂
