I finished a third pair of socks for Matt last week and thought I should post about them while they were still fairly fresh. I set an intention to finish more socks for Matt before the fall because he wore out several pairs in the last couple of years and I wanted to make sure he had at least 3 fresh pairs for the fall. That goal is met with these, so everything else is a bonus. I try to make him socks mostly out of workhorse sock yarns like Regia and Opal. They have 25 percent nylon content and last much longer than some other yarns I’ve used for socks.
The mostly blue pair is in one of the Arne and Carlos color lines by Regia. The color for that one is Moon Night. I started those back in September 2019, so it’s been a minute.
The socks that are primarily white are more Arne and Carlos by Regia in the color Tinn. I rolled the single ball into two balls of equal weight to match their stripes. This yarn had longer color repeats, so I ended up with a little less total matching yardage. Therefore, the shorter cuffs. Now Regia has some balls of yarn that have a stretch of yellow thread in the middle of the ball to mark where the second sock should start to make it really easy to match socks precisely. I think that’s brilliant and I can’t wait to knit a pair of socks with that easy to find middle point in place.
The final pair is my favorite, color-wise. I gave Matt a choice between this pair and some more subdued tan and cream stripes with teal toes and heels. He surprised me by choosing these. I guess he’s adjusting to all the crazy wild colors. I assumed he might want a more professional look (i.e. more boring) and I was wrong. I was thrilled, because this pair was likely much more fun to knit. Those little pops of orange made my day. The yarn for those is Opal in the Comedy Line in color 9836 Kleinkunst.
I will probably cast on another pair for him soon in more self-striping goodness, but the feeling of urgency to get more pairs finished for fall has dissipated.
Congratulations on three new pairs of socks! They look fantastic, and I love both Regia and Opal yarns, you just can’t beat them (I haven’t tried the Regia pair-fect line yet though). What are you going to do with the leftovers? Do you keep them for mending?
I don’t currently have plans for the leftovers, and most of them I just stick in a bag with leftovers, but they could make some wild kid or adult socks at some point!
YES, I can recommend that! I’ve made a few scrap socks, and they look so great. 🙂
Great socks! I desperately need to knit myself a few pair. I knit so many in the early 2000’s that 15 – 20 years later, I still can’t force myself to knit another pair. I wore 4 pair out beyond repair last winter though. If I don’t do something soon, my feet are going to be awfully cold this winter.
You can do it! Find yourself some gorgeous sock yarn as motivation.
It is nice that Matt is so knit-worthy. The socks are all very handsome!
That’s a lot of pretty socks! They’re so addictive, aren’t they!
