I started a Very V-Neck Raglan by Jessie Mae and I think it’s going to be so soft and lovely. I wanted to use yarn that I already had, because I need to be mindful about knitting from stash and falling in love with yarn I fell in love with in the past. This is some Primrose Yarn Co. Sophia fingering weight yarn in the color Bette Davis Eyes.
The pattern recommends DK weight, and I probably could have made that work if I did some striping. I swatched with some other fingering weight colors because I was contemplating a fade situation, but I was having issues with the different yarns coming out to the same gauge on one needle. I will probably re-swatch and rework them to be used for a sweater or a shawl at some point, but in the meantime, I decided for sanity’s sake I would stick with one yarn since I was already making a gauge change and needed to keep that top of mind for now.
I ended up going with a size 5 needle for the larger needle in this pattern. I’m making the 41.5″ size, which I think will end up closer to being between that measurement and the next size down. I’m keeping row gauge in mind, because I want to make sure This yarn is primarily merino with a smidge of cashmere and 10 percent nylon. It feels delicious and I am excited to wear it next to my skin.
I’m definitely adding some length to this. The schematics of the pattern show that this could be quite cropped (maybe 6 inches from armpit to the bottom of the sweater) if I’m reading it correctly. Luckily, since it’s top down I can try it on along the way and get it to a good length for my torso.
