Don’t hate me, but I’m not a huge fan of the ubiquitous pumpkin spice coffee/treats/everything that comes with fall. However, this outfit feels like a solid pumpkin spice move outfit-wise. I used some saffron colored silk noil that I got at Blackbird Fabrics a few months back. I believe I had ordered 3.5 meters and I was very excited to be able to get a top and bottom from the material.

The top is a Strata Top by Sew Liberated. I added an inch or so of length I believe, but otherwise just cut a size 12 and made no modifications. I had this pattern for awhile and didn’t make it because I thought it might be a bit boring. I ended up making French seams throughout to make it look like a polished piece and I feel that the silk noil merits that kind of treatment. This came together very quickly and I love the way it looks. I am not sure I will always wear these pieces together in matchy matchy fashion, but I do love the feel of this entire outfit.

The skirt is a Peppermint Pocket Skirt. This is a free pattern from Peppermint Magazine. It’s a free pattern that I really really like and I can see myself making several times. I made a size 14 and made no mods. I did some extra top stitching for the side seams to make it look as neat as possible. That was suggested as an option in the pattern. The drape is fantastic in this fabric and the pockets are delightfully large. On Instagram I’ve seen a picture of someone that shows that an iPad can fit in these pockets, but I am unable to find it again. Regardless, these pockets can replace a small to medium purse in my opinion. I wasn’t sure I would like this length, but it’s growing on me and I think this can easily transition from sandal weather to boot weather to be a multi-seasonal piece. Silk noil is warmer than I expected.

If you are into sewing, there are a bunch of free patterns on the Peppermint Magazine site. I’ve downloaded quite a few already.
