I started these socks around Thanksgiving, and initially made a cable pattern. I got all the way through the heel turn and I hated the way they fit, so I riiiiiiiiipped them out. Argh. I cast them back on as a pair of Hermione’s Everyday Socks because I knew it was simple and I couldn’t mess them up. The yarn is Opal 6-ply, which is heavier than I usually use, so I had to figure out what number of stitches would work for me in that heavier sport-weight yarn. I think that ended up being about 52 stitches in a round, rather than my usual 64 stitches in fingering weight.

This florescent orange popped into my head as something that I would like to use after my immediate family went on a camping trip for Thanksgiving night and the next day. We were at an Arkansas campground called Kyle’s Landing and it was decent weather and blissfully mostly empty of other humans.

We went on a beautiful hike through the woods, ending at a triple waterfall.

As we were walking we heard a few gunshots from hunters in the far distance. It occurred to me that it might be nice to have some knits in a searingly bright color that would be hard to miss.

Then I ended up making socks, that might not show, but oh well. That was what sparked the initial purchase.

Prior to the cold this year, I concentrated on making Matt several pairs of socks since he had worn through a bunch of old ones beyond the point of decent repair. I guess I will have to do that for myself now, because it seems that I haven’t been making it through a week without searching for socks. Or we’ve just gotten extremely lazy about the laundry. That’s definitely a factor as well.

Hope the super snowy weather has abated for all that weren’t used to that! I’m so happy to have moderate introductory spring temperatures here. We had a couple of super warm days that made me want to put down the sweater in progress, but I will prevail!
