I’ve tried several monthly subscription boxes, but never a yarn-related one. Last month the folks at Yarn Crush asked if I would review one of their subscription boxes and I jumped at the chance.Yarn Crush focuses on using yarn from indie dyers and they pair them with patterns that would go beautifully with the yarn. I think this is a gorgeous pairing in December’s box. The yarn is from Yarn Indulgences and it’s a Zed Luxe Sock base in the color Paisley. The fiber content is 70% Merino Wool, 20% Cashmere, and 10% Nylon. It seems to feel very similar to one of my favorite sock yarns, Anzula Squishy, with a bit more cashmere. I want to bathe in this yarn. Is that possible?
The clutch pattern is adorable and this kit includes all of the necessary elements, save a little bit of fabric to line the clutch if desired. As much as I do think the pattern is adorable, I probably won’t be pairing this yarn with it because I love the yarn too much and want to wear it next to my skin. This yarn will likely become a small shawl or a most treasured pair of socks. I can’t wait to knit with it!
As for the pattern, I do think I might attempt it at some point, but I’m not much of a clutch carrying gal, so this might take me some time to get to. I think the stitch pattern on the design would be beautiful on a pair of socks. Zooey immediately fell in love with the idea of a little purse with crystals on it, so perhaps she will be the future owner.
If you want to learn more about Yarn Crush, check out their site or their Ravelry group to see some of the things people have made with their lovely pairings. You can choose monthly or bimonthly plans ranging from 3-12 month commitments. Each month includes 100g of indie dyed yarn, coordinating patterns, and extra goodies. If you’re a yarn lover that adores surprises in the mail, this might be just the thing for you.
So, do you want to try a box of your own?! Just comment below and tell what you would most love to see in a yarn subscription box. I’ll keep comments open until Monday February 8th at 5pm and then I’ll choose a winner with a random number generator.
Hey I would love to win because I have an ambition of making my own scarf:) (and getting some yarn for that would be a good first step hehe)/Mary
https://beautytruuth.wordpress.com/
I’d love to see the yarn and pattern for a feminine little shawlette in a subscription box! Not socks, there are enough patterns knocking around for those, and you can’t see the gorgeous yarn when it’s on your feet!
socks! or a scarf!
I just love the surprise part of the deal. It’s so much fun to get a box that is going to hold something wonderful and delicious and scrumptious.
This is my year to attempt socks. Would love to see yarn, needles and pattern for a simple pair, even in child’s size. I love kits as they provide incentive for me to complete.
I love your clutch box. I’d love to see a nice scarf for a guy. I always have trouble finding the perfect gift for my husband. Thanks!
I’d love to see gloves.
I would love a surprise box with yarn and a pattern — that sounds awesome. The possibilities would be endless. 🙂
Just love the surprise. Scart, cowl, mitts, hat would be awesome.
Oh my gosh. I’ve entered many a giveaway, but this one looks like a fun surprise! I think I’d be most excited to see a non-traditional project (similar to the clutch), but I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a lightweight summer shawl.
I would most love to see unique notions in a yarn subscription box. I’ve never seen a purse clasp that’s so pretty! Obviously I want yummy yarn in a subscription box, but I also like it for trying new tools 🙂
alpaca yarn…..love love love it
Alpace yarn…super soft…always my favorite
I think some neat camping socks along with sock blockers would make a great yarn subscription box
I love little notions and mini skeins; this is a fun giveaway 🙂
I would love to see some gorgeous sock yarn and pretty stitch markers. I think that would make a lovely subscription box. 🙂
I would love to see a shawl pattern with lace weight yarn in a subscription box. I’ve got a handle on socks, hats and scarves, but I’ve never tried a shawl and haven’t yet made the commitment to buy enough yarn for one.
Any cashmere or silk blend and a shawl. Or a hat. Or any small accessory. Or baby knit. I don’t know what I want.
I would love a pattern for a pretty but functional cowl, some cool stitch marked maybe
Indie dyed yarn sounds great , add an interesting pattern maybe some wool wash, stitch markers or needles.
Love yarnie surprises
I’d like to see something to work in lace like a scarf or little shawl.
I would just love the element of surprise and being able to try different yarns that I wouldn’t get to try otherwise.
I would love to make a shawl. Something guy related would be the best. I have a son in the army and I would love to surprise him with something that I was surprised with.
I would love bright colors and interesting patterns.
A beautiful cowl! Something soft and lovely for around the neck sounds great! Would love to try a subscription box but I always shy away from actually ordering!
Oh what a wonderful looking subscription!! I would be happy with any surprise with that kind of treasure; but if I had to chose I’d say a small color work project (say a hat, or kids mitts).
I would love the motivation to try something new, such as a unique color or a surprising pattern!
i would like for super bulky yarn to be included and something other than shawl patterns.
I think i must subscribe to this box! too cool! I think a stole patter would be an awesome pattern for a box. Theres tons of shawl patterns and they’re beautiful but i never wear shawls, a stole like a rectangular version of a shawl…awesome.
I’d love to see a) a skein of yarn in a beautiful colourway that I wouldn’t think of picking out for myself and b) stitch markers because I’m always losing.
Anything that would get me out of my comfort zone would be nice. That clutch would have definitely done it!
I love little notions like stitch markers etc in a box like that, though yarn-wise I go crazy for sock yarn. Even if it’s not used for my feet it’s so versatile!
I’ve looked at Yarn Crush and debated if I should treat myself. 🙂 I love yarn surprises, thanks for the chance to win!
Ooh, I’d love a box with sock supplies. Maybe then I’d actually make some!
I think a shawl pattern with sock yarn would be great. And notions are always fun too!
I would love to get a box with sock yarn and beads to make a shawl. And tips on how to get the darn beads on the yarn without using brute force!
A surprise box of yarn goodness would make my day and let’s be real probably the week! How about patterns for fingerless gloves or a springtime sock pattern, perhaps add in some lovely stitch markers or sock needles and that would be a great box!
Oh, socks, or a shawl/scarf/cowl thingy.
Oh, just beautiful yarn and a simple pattern would make me happy! Small accessory like wristers, a cowl, or a shawlette.
I would love some fingering weight yarn and a good sock pattern!
My favorite thing: hmmm… Perhaps a fingering or lace weight yarn with a new sock or shawl pattern!
I would love a basic intarsia pattern, maybe mittens or a hat. One of my knitting goals this year is to dip into some color work and a kit would be so much fun! Thanks!
I’d love to see a gradient with a shawl pattern that would take full advantage of it.
I’d love to receive a sock yarn and beads combo. I’m thinking of a lovely cowl 🙂
Thanks so much for the opportunity! I’d love to see a project bag in a cool, funky fabric to hold that wip made with the lovely yarn.
Something with color work would be nice, it would push me to improve my technique.
I think I’d like the box to include things for the project itself – stitch markers, project bag, maybe a pen and highlighter for the pattern. As for the pattern, i’m in the mood for a shawl and I’ve yet to try beads.
I wish for colorwork related subscriptions, maybe with partial skeins but enough to complete a project.
I would love a yarn subscription box that had multiple skeins so you could make a bigger project. I rarely make one-skein projects, but it would be nice to have the incentive to make socks!
I love knitting notions, unusual patterns, and sock yarn especially! Thanks for the opportunity. I hadn’t heard of this particular company before.
I’d love to see a quality I dyed yarn and some dyes to go along with it! It would be such fun to paint up my own skein.
What a fun idea – I love the idea of a yarn subscription!
Looks like fun!!
Yarn would create perfect for a cowl or wristies
I’m amazed at all of the variety in the boxes. I love that it could be anything from mitts to a clutch to a shawl. The surprise is the best part. Plus I generally reach for the same few colors of yarn all the time. It would be good to get out of my comfort zone.
Stitch markers or perhaps a unique cable needle would be fun additions, but mostly, a yarn subscription needs fantastic yarn!
This is a FANTASTIC idea!
Over the holidays, I got back into knitting, big time, & would love to see a kit with an easy to follow pattern for a cute, slightly slouchy beanie.
I would love to see more yarn in a subscription box. Yes the extras are fun but nothing makes you really happy squeal like seeing multiple skeins of pretty yarn!
That’s a beautiful yarn! I’d love to see a box with a shawl in – I’ve never knitted one, but might be keen to next
Yaarrrrhn! (Said in best pirate voice)
My preference would be for a thicker yarn and a pattern for something like a beanie or scarf. I have seen beautiful knitted and crocheted jewelry too, which would be cool to get instructions on.
Oh my goodness! That yarn is what I’d like to see in a yarn box!!! So amazingly gorgeous. You know what pattern I immediately thought of when I saw that yarn? A Homespun House’s Foraging Mittens pattern. Oh my, that would be heaven! Of course, I think this yarn would look amazing in any pattern I bet!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Jenny
Mini skeins and cute stitch markers… Flexible for all kinds of small projects. And stitch markers are always escaping!
Gradient yarn! Perhaps one or two skeins with each box (depending on how often they are issued) and some small project options for each box that would work with each skein(s) or a larger project idea that you could build up to once you had the full spectrum.
Looks like a gorgeous yarn. Small projects like shawls needing yarn over one or two months. If projects require large quantities of yarn and spread over too many months I would be bound to lose interest!
Hi, I would love to receive a lovely, cosy, not too complicated shawl pattern to wrap myself in on cold days, so it feels like a big warm hug 🙂
The anticipation of something of a surprise coming in the mail is so awesome. I would love to try this yarn. A nice scarf or hat or maybe a shawl would be great. Where can you sign up for a package like this! I’m always looking for new ideas to make something.
I think the whole point of surprises are that you don’t know. That being said, that yarn and pattern were so cute. I would love to knit something totally brand new and out of the “box” for me. Something like that clutch is so in my world random and charming.
I would love to see a worsted hat pattern. Or just hat patterns. I always have someone who would love any type of hat!
I love surprises, but have to admit I would never knit a purse.Unless of course someone else wanted it, then I would knit it for them because I love making different things. Personally, I’d love to see a funky hat or interesting sock pattern and yarn show up in my mailbox.
Thank you for the opportunity to win 🙂
I agonize over choosing colors, so having someone choose for me would be great!
A cowl for sure! I am currently in love with cowls and the matching possibilities of yarn and pattern are endless.
I get stuck always knitting the same things, like socks or mitts, that I really would like the element of a surprise pattern and the yarn that would work with that pattern.
i’m a sock yarn lover too for socks and shawls…but i’m a sucker for hand-dyed arans too….
What i would love to be surprised by is a whole bunch of small skeins of different colors that go together beautifully and are a little out of the box combo wise- something for small color-work projects like fingerless gloves or socks. This looks like a great gift idea for a non stop knitter friend with a special birthday coming up.
Thanks for the chance at this and for letting us know about it.
I’d like to see a lace weight yarn and a shawl pattern in my box
Truthfully I wouldn’t even care what’s in the box (ok fine, I have a thing for buttery soft semisolid yarn), I just love getting mail!
That yarn box is amazing! I’d adore that clutch but like you that yarn is much too nice and soft to not make something to wear. I think the clutch idea is a great one. Maybe a beaded shawl or a fancy hat would be nice too.
I would love to make a shawl. I’m new to knitting and have a lot to learn, but I’ve become addicted.
That yarn is amazing! I would love some beautiful yarn with a great cowl pattern!
This looks absolutely amazing! I’ve never tried a yarn subscription box before either, but seeing the content of yours kind of makes me want to try it, too.
I’d love to see a pattern matched with a unique yarn or yarns. I love getting a ‘kit’ sometimes so I don’t have to agonize about what yarn to pick for which pattern!
I would love sock yarn…my newest obsession!
What fun! I’m going to check out their site. Love the idea of indie yarn for sox, a cowl or shawl. Fun extras would be stitch markers, tape measures, etc.
I would love to see an “Indulgence” box. It would contain yarn, pattern, chocolate, and wine all paired together. Wouldn’t that be fun!
That yarn is so gorgeous! I love tonal yarns. My ideal box would include a yarn and booze pairing – I used to do my own beer and knitting pairings on my blog and both are near and dear to my heart 😀
That’s an awesome idea for a subscription box, focusing on indie dyers is always a good idea. That yarn is so pretty.
I’d love something out of the ordinary — little experiments. Fibers I’ve never used, out-there color combos, that kind of thing. Things I probably wouldn’t normally pick out myself, but would love to play with if they just showed up at my door. (But then, out-of-the-ordinary is kind of subjective, isn’t it?)
I’d like to win some super soft squishy yarn that would feel luxurious in a cowl or scarf.
Something new and different along the lines of the clutch.
I need a bag for tapestry needles, buttons, stitch markers and such. It is hard for me to keep up with tiny items. It would be great to do a lace or mesh with matching fabric. You can never find matching fabric. I knit a lace top in white just because I knew I could match white! A contrasting color could be epic too. Or a ribbon to run through knitting, how cool! Baby items often have a satin ribbon threaded through like on booties
I think I would like a scarf or gloves, but that little clutch is just so cute, I would have to make it!
What a lovely giveaway! I love seeing single skein patterns that are a little special and not too forced (like those cropped tops at a huge gauge that one would never wear just so that it is still a one skein pattern). The clutch is perfect. Having the notions and all in the box is the icing on the cake.
Such a lovely box! I like projects that are doable and really wearable — cabled hat pattern in worsted weight yarn, 1-skein semicircular shawlette pattern in a squishy cashmere/merino/silk blend, etc. I also like bookish themes!
I’d love to see a hat pattern.
I think an all-sock club would be fun. Each month a different yarn and pattern you can use if you wish, or simply use a classic pattern you are already comfortable with. With so many fibers available and solid, tonal, striped, etc. yarns, it would be easy to keep it varied…
Wow! First, thank you. I’d never heard of Yarn Crush before and will definitely check it out.
Who doesn’t like a surprise? Sounds fabulous. As for the deliveries… anything really… Scarf, socks, fingerless gloves… beanies… A cowl!
I’d have LOVED the clutch project. I’ve a visceral reaction to textiles. I’m overcome with joy for reasons that escape my familial relationships. They do however, reap the benefits and support my yarn habit. 🙂
What an awesome idea! Natural fiber yarn with a fun hat or shawl pattern would be neat. It would also be cool to see some crochet jewelry kits, those have been getting more popular.
I would like to see simple blanket patterns. I make blankets for our local cancer hospital. They are given out to people who are having chemotherapy treatments. I am always looking for patterns that will help cheer people.
A surprise box? How great!
I don’t want to guess what could be inside…..
Surprise me!!!!
I love this concept. ..and the yarn looks delicious.
A surprise, of course! These clubs are so exciting! Thanks!
I would love to see a variety–things you might not otherwise try, or haven’t seen or heard of, stuff that could become a new favorite go-to yarn!
I love surprise yarn in the mail! Socks, or a shawl.
I would want yarn that I would not be able to find normally. An exclusive colourway, base or a brand that is not available to me!
Thank you for the great giveaway!
For me defintely socks… 🙂
I’m mostly a sweater knitter, so I think that’s the main thing that keeps me from subscription boxes…I can always use more socks though!
I would love to see some of the silk wool and merino mixed in a project or, perhaps, a cotton and silk wool blended to create a unique mix of textures.
I would love to see natural dyes or some fun yarn/pattern pairing – perhaps something ‘out of the box’ so to speak.
Socks would be my idea. Sock yarn, sock patterns!
I’d love some unique colors, the kind you can’t order, a pattern yo use with it and another small gift… Unique Stitch markers possibly 🙂
I would love to see a theme based subscription box of sock yarn
I love the idea of a nice cowl that could be doubled/tripled as needed/desired. This box looks like so much fun.
Oh so many choices! I love natural fibres, so some wool/cotton blend would be lovely. The yarn you got is gorgeous!!
I’d love to win this box! I’ve been curious about Yarn Crush and the boxes they send out. This would be a perfect way to test one. I’d love to see some unique stitch markers and, of course, some gorgeous yarn — maybe something in a cotton blend for the upcoming warmer months.
I would like to see something out of the ordinary, like a shawl design that reminds of Jane Austen stories…or a garment in general from a distant time!
I’d like to see some patterns that are convertible and flexible. It would also be nice if subscription yarn boxes included 2 patterns, because, as you mentioned, we’re not all “clutch girls,” or “sock girls,” or “shawl girls”…
I’d love to see a fun sock pattern.
The project you got is lovely–impractical but lovely. I would like to see slightly unusual projects or unusual/unique construction.
I’m always up for a nice shawl pattern! I’m digging that clutch, but I think I’d only use it for special occasions like weddings.
I would love to see multiple skeins in a box <3
I would love to get projects that one can finish using the box contents. This seems ideal!
Everybody wants a knitted gift. So I would like to receive one skein gift projects perhaps with some embellishing items.
I would love to see hand-dyed yarn to make a lovely long cowl!
It’s definitely a challenge to come up with something unique each month for a subscription box
Socks, shawl, purses, perhaps something for the home?
Definitely unique notions.
Alpaca or something super soft is always a hit with me.
What a great way to try new patterns and yarn!
I love to see more little accessory projects like this one. Maybe cute fingerless mitts or a small object for the home. I have another yarn subscription and feel like I get a shawl or scarf every month. This purse is an adorable variance!
