I was planning to talk about two other knitting projects–the Pink Memories sweater I just finished, or possibly a silk Brandilyn top I started a couple of weeks ago. Neither made the cut as yesterday I felt compelled to cast on a new hat.
We were hit with some nasty cold weather, a bit unusual and intense for April in Arkansas. We woke up to a light dusting of snow on Saturday (yes, snow), and I had just cast off my Pink Memories, but I didn’t feel like going back to the silky summer top that was next in line. Instead I flipped through Instagram and got inspired by some hat patterns, then went down the rabbit hole of Ravelry and came out the other side with the simplest little 1×1 ribbed hat to make. I have had this Madelinetosh DK yarn in Filigree in my stash since Matt and I went to Kansas City a few years ago. I only bought one skein of it since it captured by heart, but I didn’t have a specific project in mind. Now I wish I had a sweater’s worth as I’m watching these gorgeously subtle shades of earthy spring progress from my needles.
This simple little hat is called Erie Hat. It’s incredibly simple and most people probably wouldn’t even need a pattern, but it’s often nice when someone else has done the thinking and the math. It’s pure comfort knitting.
i love the colors of this yarn –
This is yarn you’ve wound off on your ball-winder, yes ? Is that a core or paper you put around the spindle so as to stop the ball from collapsing in the middle (as do all mine when I use my small winder) ?
I love the way that yarn is knitting up

comfort knitting is always so ideal when the weather is cold!! I love that green, it’s got such great shades in it.
What a great colorway. Makes me think of rocks in a clear, babbling river.
