I made this sweater about 3 years ago and I truly did not love it. I wanted to. I made it out of stash yarn at the time and held two strands of fingering weight together to get the gauge. I think my gauge was off, knitting with two strands of slippery superwash annoyed the f*ck out of me, it snagged on everything very easily, and I just never wore it. I ended up donating it. I’m giving Flaum another shot.
Fast forward to now. I was perusing patterns the other day and cleaning up my queue and I decided to give this one another shot, because it’s gorgeous. This time I ordered the Quince and Co. Owl called for in the pattern. It’s easy to sub lots of yarn in patterns, but sometimes things go so well with the intended yarn. I bought the Cerulean color and I love it, especially close up. It has the loveliest subtle whisps of grey. It’s half alpaca and half wool. I’m slightly concerned it will be a teeny bit itchy next to bare skin, but I plan on washing it with some Unicorn Fibre Beyond Soft to help with that a bit.
This time the pattern is going so well. I don’t want to put it down, despite my commitment to get a sweater done for Matt while it’s still cold out. This is just a little more interesting… I’m making the medium size and my only alteration was to add an extra 2 stitches to each sleeve. I might have added length last time, but since then I’ve grown to love more cropped things so this one will be knit to the specified length. I love love love the fisherman’s rib. It makes the squishiest fabric. I would love to do an entire oversized pullover in fisherman’s rib. Yum.
Love it, can’t wait to see the finished sweater.
It is a beautiful color and it looks like it will be wonderful. As I would guess everyone will be anxious to see the finished product.
I frogged my last one and I had almost finished the body. The fisherman’s rib killed my hands. But it is such a cute sweater.
The fisherman’s rib does work a little bit different muscle than regular ribbing.
This looks beautiful – I have a storebought sweater that has fisherman’s rib that I’m obsessed with – really wanting to knit one for myself, I’ll have to add this one to the possibilities list!
Fisherman’s rib is the best – I made a scarf with it two? years ago, and it’s been the one I have been wearing most. I’ll be making another one this year, for a non-knitting friend who bought yarn, because it was so soft. 😉 Looking at the sweater, I think it’s really, really pretty!! I don’t think it would suit me, but the way it’s constructed is really beautiful.
